Health Technology Assessment can be translated to “Descrição de Tecnologias da Saúde”or “Avaliação de Tecnologias da Saúde”. The first stresses more the descriptive part of the assessment, without critical evaluation. The second takes into account some type of basic evaluation, which sometimes do not include judgment. The second one is the most near the English version.

Health Technology Appraisal is best translated to “Apreciação de Tecnologias da Saúde” or “Análise crítica de Tecnologias da Saúde”. Both imply some kind of judgement. The first is more polite, whereas the second is more rude and face-to-face. The first one is perhaps the nearer to the English version.

Health Technology Appraisal is more like “There should be” or “There should also be provided” or “There is but shouldn’t”.
